Music for Phonological Awareness

Phonological Awareness can be enhanced by participation in music. Researchers have found that musically trained children outperformed untrained children in pitch discrimination (high or low sounds), rhythm discrimination (hearing a series of pulses and hearing differences), and phonological skills (Tsang & Conrad, 2011). Rhyme awareness is an important element of phonological skill.
