Music for Print, or Orthographic, Awareness.
Children learn the concepts of reading by experiencing reading with adults. The top to bottom, left to right, front to back tracking help children prepare for reading books and to follow music. Register (2001) found that music enhanced print concepts in emerging readers. Music can be used to help reading in three ways - 1) to sing a book and follow along, 2) to write down words of a song a child knows and have them follow along, and 3) to write music symbols to represent sounds.
